Stormwatch from the Porch

ree

The wind shakes loose the amber leaves,

I cradle warmth in a steaming cup.

Rain whispers soft on the porch eaves,

While thunder rolls like a waking drum.

I cradle warmth in a steaming cup,

Fox slips beneath the thicket’s veil.

While thunder rolls like a waking drum,

A wren clings tight to cedar rail.

Fox slips beneath the thicket’s veil,

The sky splits wide with silver flame.

A wren clings tight to cedar rail,

Then stillness settles, not quite tame.

The sky splits wide with silver flame,

Rain whispers soft on the porch eaves.

Then stillness settles, not quite tame—

The wind shakes loose the amber leaves.
